With over 30 years of experience and research in lakes and their ecology, I have explored the effects of and interactions between nutrients on ecological conditions, water-sediment interactions, lake restoration, and topics related to the implementation of the EU’s Water Framework Directive.
I have taught several courses at the bachelor’s and master’s levels, particularly focusing on nutrient dynamics in lakes, lake restoration, and lake management. I am responsible for a bachelor’s course in biology related to the management of Danish nature and the environment. Additionally, I have taught within the SDC collaboration in China, specifically in the field of biogeochemistry
I have collaborated with many research institutions both domestically and internationally. In Denmark, this collaboration has been supported by grants and agencies, while in Europe, it has been particularly through various research projects, including initiatives like Horizon 2020.
Over the years, I have provided advice, particularly to the Danish Environmental Protection Agency (Miljøstyrelsen), on management-related topics. Since 2005, my focus has been on matters related to the implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive in Denmark
